Your Coaching Staff

Coached by elite instructors

Three coaches bringing national-level experience, Skate Canada credentials, and QMJHL-tested coaching to every session.

Cheryl-Ann McConnell
Cheryl-Ann McConnell
Technical Skating Specialist

Technical skating specialist focused on hockey players. Cheryl-Ann has spent years refining the foundational edge work and skating fundamentals that separate good players from great ones.

Her sessions are about precision — clean edges, controlled posture, and the technical details most players never get taught. As she puts it: "get the edge on the rest."

Braeden Virtue
Braeden Virtue
Owner · Head of Development, Genesis Hockey

10 years of coaching experience, 4-year QMJHL alum, and current Carleton Ravens player. Having played under elite coaches like Patrick Roy and Philippe Boucher, Braeden brings a professional standard to every session: high-energy, detail-driven, and focused on real game impact.

His coaching emphasizes strong skating fundamentals, hockey IQ, and confident decision-making so that the skills learned in training translate directly to game situations. Every drill has a purpose, and he makes sure players understand the "why" behind it.

Darryl Van Luven
Darryl Van Luven
Skating Technique · NCCP Level III

Former Skate Canada National Team Member with international competitive experience. NCCP Level III certified, currently coaches skaters from beginner to national competitive level at the Minto Skating Club.

As a competitive ice dancer, Darryl spent years mastering the "run of the blade" — generating power and speed, developing agility, and lengthening stride. He assesses each player's strengths and areas for improvement to help them maximize their game performance.
